Leucadia / Encinitas Town Council Blog introduction

    WELCOME !
Leucadia Roadside Park, Leucadia, CA. Perhaps the world's smallets park, it still has over 125 years of lore. This photo put some lipstick on the quarter centrury old sign. Hey, why be dull?

The Leucadia / Encinitas Town Council was orignally formed by local back in the mid 1970's. One of their first concerns was a plan to make what was then Fulvia Street go all the way from Escondido with a 6 lane freeway ending at Beacon's Beach. It was LTC board member Margaret Wilhelm (RIP) who spear headed the fight locally against the proposal. And, WE WON! Today the west part of Fulvia St. has been changed to Leucadia Blvd; a mostly 4 lane road that follows the same route that Interstate 680 had planned to take and through the efforts of the City of Encinitas (and especially former Mayor Sheila Cameron) is now beautifully landscaped throughout town and has the newer improvements of two roundabouts: better ADA accessiblity: antique style street lamps, great landscaping and new sidewalks where it intersects with Historic Hwy 101.

The Leucadia Town Council Blog is formed to reveal the past, present and future as it relates to our neighbors and businesses. It is also a public venue for questions, constructive input, announcements and always hunting for vintage local Kodak moments to post! It also will feature historical bits from numerous sources - so get that old scrapbook out, scan something cool and send it to us!
This Blog is a work in progress, so stay tuned for more soon!

Thank you,
